Do I Qualify for Habitat for Humanity Home? Our purpose at Habitat for Humanity is to build homes with families and sell them at no profit and no interest to families who could not otherwise afford a home. We are financed through private donations and grants and utilize volunteer labor. Currently, MWV Habitat builds one house per year. If you think you may qualify and would like an application for the next house to be built please write, call or e-mail mwvhfh@ncia.net so that we may put your name on our list of potential applicants and contact you when the Family Selection Committee is accepting applications. Our office is open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 until 12:30 or you can leave a message any time. Please state your name and address clearly. Please contact us if you have any questions. The phone number is 603-356-3832.Please read the following items to see if you meet Habitat's general guidelines: 1. To qualify you must have a housing need. (For example: poor heating, leaks in the roof, overcrowding (three to a bedroom), unsafe or unsanitary conditions, or otherwise substandard or inadequate.) 2. You need to have lived in the Mt. Washington Valley area for at least a year. 3. You need to have a minimum gross household income of $25,000 per year and a maximum of $40,000, dependent on family size. 4. If your family is approved for a Habitat home, the Board of Directors asks that you be willing to attend monthly Habitat for Humanity homeowners meetings and join in programs to learn and practice budgeting, and home maintenance and repair. 5. If your family is approved for a Habitat home, all adult (18 years and older) members of your household are required to work at least 300 hours of sweat equity, either on the home you will purchase, or on other Habitat homes. 6. If approved for a Habitat home, about $750 will be needed for a down payment and closing costs. Of this amount $250 will be due at the time of acceptance. If you are approved for a home and if you meet the sweat equity and down payment requirements, then Mount Washington Valley Habitat for Humanity will sell you a home and provide a no-interest mortgage loan. Your monthly mortgage payments will include payments toward the loan principal and payments to an escrow account to be used for the payment of Real Estate taxes and homeowners insurance premiums. The monthly mortgage loan payments made by Habitat families are used by MWV Habitat to build homes for other families. It is important that payments are made on time so that other local families in need can have an opportunity to own a home. Families are required to make their monthly payments using automatic bank drafts.
